From Saturday morning:

SANTIAGO, Chile (OP) - A massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Chile early Saturday, collapsing buildings, killing at least 16 people and downing phone lines. President Michele Bachelet declared a "state of catastrophe" in central Chile and said the death toll was rising.

President Obama has called for an immediate formation of an advisory group of experts, in order to determine the most effective way this disaster can be blamed on George Bush.

Don't quit your day job Bart, as the key to most all comedy is TIMING and your timing here is nonexistent (like the lives of those 300+ Chileans you used as your 'setup'.

Last I looked, it was customary to at least wait until the bodies are cold before yukking it up :(

Chile measures toll from mammoth earthquake: at least 300 dead, half-million homes damaged

TALCA, Chile - A weeping man strokes the hand of a dead woman in a collapsed cafe. Survivors huddle around bonfires in the rubble of their homes. Smashed cars lie beneath bridges torn asunder by one of history's strongest earthquakes.

Authorities in Chile put the official death toll from Saturday's 8.8-magnitude quake at 214, but said they believed the number would grow. They said 1.5 million Chileans were affected and 500,000 homes severely damaged by the mammoth temblor.

"We think the real (death) figure tops 300 and we believe this will continue to grow," said Carmen Fernandez, head of the National Emergency Agency.
President Michelle Bachelet, who leaves office March 11, declared a "state of catastrophe" in central Chile. "It was a catastrophe of devastating consequences," she said.
Bachelet said the government had not asked for assistance from other countries.
If it does, President Barack Obama said, the United States "will be there." Around the world, leaders echoed his sentiment. -link (http://www.brandonsun.com/story.php?story_id=187640)

Seventh largest earthquake in recorded history, at least seven hundred (http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-and-world/la-fg-chile-quake2-2010mar02,0,2756079.story) dead, and two MILLION people displaced from their homes and this is your first thought?? WTF
Why do I get the feeling that if this were Israel, and not Chile that had 80% of it's population affected by a natural disaster, this thread would not exist?

What's next? Bitching at the homeless Chileans that this is all their own fault?
Hectoring them that if they would only pick themselves up by their bootstraps, develop marketable skills that employers need & want, then they wouldn't find themselves homeless? :(

Very disappointing. You are much better than this.

Hey, I'm not the one who uses death to make political capital.

Chile is a civilized country. In spite of the worst efforts of Allende and Pinochet, the people of Chile have managed to keep their country independent and thriving, so it takes a lot more than an earthquake to destroy them. They will rebuild; helping them would certainly be nice, and probably the right thing to do, but, unlike with some countries, even if they didn't get a bit of outside help, they would be able to recover.

Hey, I'm not the one who uses death to make political capital.Yeah, I guess. Except for the fact that you just did it here!
Oh right. This was *just joking* (using the freshly-dead as political fodder)

But FYI, there's a guy who looks just like you who is doing it (http://www.richardbey.org/forums/showpost.php?p=18156&postcount=34) over in News & Politics.
You may want to look into that (using death to make political capital). Especially since he's TOTALLY making things up to make his point.

That was used as a demonstration of an invalid argument.

When were you planning on letting kk & the few of us left here in on the fact you were simply sharing a *demonstration* of an invalid argument with us?

It's clear (to me) you posted an invalid argument and rebuttal in the GOP thread. Its not clear to me you did so deliberately.

Obama's Ayers connection never bugged anyone (http://www.suntimes.com/news/sweet/901879,CST-NWS-sweet18.article)OK. So what's your point?
You posted a link to an article without providing any comment (pro? or con?.) Are we supposed to join KarlRove and Bill O'Reilly (and you?) in lambasting Obama for "hanging around" William Ayers"???
Don't really know what to make of this, and rather than be accused (again) of 'putting words in your mouth' that you didn't say, I'll simply wait for you to actually say something.....
