This has been brewing for some time.
Curtis is going to Salem, what used to be called the Apple. It is an all conservative talker created by a religious broadcaster.
If there was a signature host to WABC it was Curtis...Its hard to believe that they wouldn't try hard to keep him on. Batchelor will now replace him starting Monday night.
Did Curtis leave or was he replaced? At least he gets to go out with dignity, he did his show last night and he's filling in for Hannity today. Is he going to do mornings on The Apple?
What is going on with WABC? Bob Grant is only on 2 hours a week on Sunday. It's like it is a different station anymore.
Below is the David Hinckley article on Curtis Sliwa:

If you like someone, doesn't mean you dislike another. When Curtis & Kuby left WABC, through no fault of their own, IMHO...one not only felt the loss, but didn't understand this business we call Talk Radio...We are wise enough to know we need it. It is very important to our daily living, silly as it sounds. It is the freedom of the airways, and people talking and listening describing and fortifying Freedom of Speech...
So...the Curtis & Kuby show is gone for quite a while now. Curtis got other Host jobs...IMUS took over their slot in the morning with his Team. Upon his arrival I began listening and enjoyed him/them. It doesn't mean I no longer liked Curtis and Kuby. Even they ended up liking themselves , when at first they may not have. And so they came and went in your car, or into your home.
Now, Curtis is once again, sadly going. What I like especially about Curtis, is that he tried from *day one* to help those who were helpless. And he used means that would open the eyes of people and spark indignation and resort to helping him help those in need. To see what he had seen and acknowledge, that they did.
He read, and worked, slept, read, worked, slept, and got involved. He spoke anywhere they would have him and did a good job. He knows much about the city, and things in general, more than the average citizen from different aspects. He has portrayed great reverence for what he believes in. He is dedicated, aware, consciencious. Father Earth who went through much. He has taught himself, what others could not, because they lack something he doesn't. His experiences are real, and his allegiance is too.
His love of life, freedom and safety for those who need it, here, there and everywhere he goes, is from his heart. He's shy and different, and never lost an opportunity to learn from the masters he respects.
Maybe he is just too good and nice. Sure he has his quirks and is a character, but it doesn't mean that those with quirks, called characters, are not wise, dedicated, likeable assets to society. He has learned how to laugh at himself, and knows who to respect.
I wish him well, and know he will be back as a fill in for a Host. He will not be forsaken, as this business has been part of his life probably, for a least half of it.
God Bless him and his fortitude all these years, through the thick, thin and highly complciated. He forged on like no one you know could.
He is to be congratulated. His sliwaisms are funny. If you like the guy, and truly understand them, I believe you can feel it, as you feel the love and honor he has for his Mom, Dad, Aunt Mary, now gone, his wife Mary, and son Anthony. He has come a long way, working hard every day of his life.
I wish him well...

I only listened when Kuby was with him. It was a good match. I had the feeling that Curtis did not always think before speaking and Kuby would call him on irresponsible statements, citing facts.
Something happened when Kuby left, probably right before, as Curtis did not attend Kuby's goodbye party(well, I am speculating here, but it's very odd).
Anyway, from Wiki:
The station(WABC) retained Sliwa until November 2009, when his show was cancelled after a contract dispute.[13] He has since moved to a morning show on WNYM radio.[14]
Sliwa can earn $12,000 to $15,000 per event as a motivational speaker, and is represented by Premiere Speaking Bureau.
What I think is SUPER is that WABC has added Dylan Ratigan
to it's lineup. Ratigan tolerates no nonesense and has a way of explaining complicated financial issues to airheads such as myself.
There is a possibility that the NY Conservative talk station is now trying to take on stimulating and thought provoking programming rather than knee jerk carbon copying pro big business dead heads.
Curtis is starting Monday January 11th on WNYM, 970AM. I don't know how long WNYM, The Apple, has been promoting this but I heard a promo for him there today. He will be on from 5-9am and it will be simul-cast on UBAtv.com.

John is usually consistent, low profiled and quiet.
Probably you are too Bart.
I really liked his Dad a lot; but like him too...
