...the Republican Party is dead.
And in other news, in a move to solidify their newly found base of voters, the GOP will rename themselves "The Not-Corzine" Party (TNC).

Well, they were dead -- which can be an advantage when the Democrats are alive.

I think Corzine lost because he didn't know who his opponent was. He seemed to be running against some fella named Bush.

I don't think Corzine was helped by a career marked by shoving others aside. He pushed aside Florio to get the Senate seat, then Codey to run for Governor. I wonder if he now would like to have his Senate seat back as Lautenberg has his for life again after taking a break.
Also, rumors are that Corzine's fortune is not what it was. He had to pay off a wife, then a girlfriend, in addition to three expensive campaigns over nine years. Absent large sums of cash, there is not much love for this guy. At least I haven't heard any and I know a lot of Democrats who work in Trenton.

Come January, the New Jersey Governorship will have changed hands eight times in nine years.

Don't you think Obama must be pissed at the guy? I'd be all like "Hey! You're an incumbent Democratic governor in a blue state. You're running against a thoroughly lackluster candidate whom you're outspending three to one. You've got an independent spoiler splitting the anti-incumbent vote, and I'm leveraging my popularity in the state to bring all the resources the White House can bring to bear to help kick you over the finish line and you STILL can't eke out a win? Get the hell away from me! I don't even want to look at you right now. Go on. Get."

Republican Governor + Democrati Legislature = nothing will change in NJ. Just a new slate of folks whose pockets will need to be lined, who will need big government contracts, who will need patronage jobs for themselves and their friends.
Property taxes won't go down. Political corruption will not ebb. The state's finances will not magiclaly improve. Look for more budgetary gimmicks, more bonding, more raids on pension funds, more kissing the asses of the unions, more taxes and tolls and fees and more of the same. Even if the GOP had won the Legislature, the story'd be the same.
The VA governor's race was no surprise; voters there just followed their usual post-presidential election pattern of voting the other way.
The real story is in NY where the GOP's now-dominant loony right wing poured its resources, money, pressure and the big mouths of its leading lights into what should have been just another--yawn--special election to have a Repub keep a Repub seat. Instead, for all their hooting and hollering and yelling and anger, the GOP lost.

The Democrats proved they can win a race in which their Republican opponent drops out and endorses the Democrat. Yes, that truly must be the big story of the night.

Corzine lost because he was the guy in office.
People are hurting and are pissed off. Any conclusion beyond that is just partisan BS.

You've got an independent spoiler splitting the anti-incumbent vote
I know a lot of Obama supporters who said they were voting for Daggett. With Daggett's numbers dropping from 20 to 6, I wonder whether Christie was the second choice of those who voted for Daggett.
Daggett got support of the Sierra Club, along with other environmental groups who usually support Democrats. Also, all arts administrators I know (all very liberal) were just angry with Corzine. It is not just that they got less money, they had just grown not to like him, as well as view him as corrupt. All of these were working for Daggett. They got to the point that they didn't care if they threw the election to Christie.
Everyone I know hated his ex-girlfriend (Katz) too.
I think, Bazzer, that this was an election that you could've won. Your dog would've won by 20 points.

Punch Remember into Google and this is what you get especially on November the 5th this is a big firework celibration in the UK:eek:
REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER
(Traditional English Rhyme - 17th Century)
Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below
Poor old England to overthrow
By God's providence he was catched
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holloa boys, holloa boys
God save the King!
Hip hip hooray!
Hip hip hooray!
A penny loaf to feed ol' Pope
A farthing cheese to choke him
A pint of beer to rinse it down
A faggot of sticks to burn him
Burn him in a tub of tar
Burn him like a blazing star
Burn his body from his head
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hooray!
Hip hip hooray!
